The Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences has two undergraduate majors and many minors to choose from for students who are passionate about pursuing careers in science, production, conservation and sustainability.

Bumpers College Names Senior Scholars, Outstanding Departmental Students
Thirty students were named Senior Scholars for 2025-26, and each department in U of A's Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences has named its outstanding students for the year.
Seventeen students are First-Ranked Senior Scholars, signifying a 4.0 grade point average with all coursework completed at the U of A, and 13 are Senior Scholars, signifying students with the highest GPA (also all 4.0s) with at least half of their coursework completed at the U of A.
Soil Fertility Insights in Strawberries, Forages Published in Latest Sabbe Series
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Farms were the biggest users of soil testing by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, with samples representing more than a million acres, according to a summary in the latest edition of the Wayne E. Sabbe Arkansas Soil Fertility Studies.
The annual publication is a collection of soil fertility research done by scientists with the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station, the research arm of the Division of Agriculture, and with the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.

With the 2026 cotton planting season in full swing, research out of the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station provides a fresh reminder of the importance of sufficient potassium for cotton lint yield and quality.
Over the past decade, potassium deficiency has become more common across the U.S. Cotton Belt as farmers use more modern, high-yielding cotton cultivars that have greater nutrient demands, according to Gerson Drescher, an assistant professor of soil fertility in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences for the experiment station, the research arm of the U of A Division of Agriculture.
Nascimento, Crop Science M.S. Student, Named NAPB Borlaug Scholar
Emanuel Ferrari do Nascimento, a U of A master's degree student in crop, soil and environmental sciences, has been named a 2026 Borlaug Scholar by the National Association for Plant Breeding.
Nascimento, who is from Brazil, is part of the Arkansas Soybean Breeding program, led by assistant professor Caio Canella Vieira in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences.
